We are delighted to announce that we have become a Living Wage Employer accredited by the Living Wage Foundation. The real living wage is a voluntarily wage paid by almost 9,000 UK businesses who believe their staff deserve a wage that meets everyday needs.
The real Living Wage is higher than the government’s Minimum Wage (for under 23s) and National Living Wage (for over 23s) as it is independently calculated based on what people need to earn to get by.
The real Living Wage for employees in London is £10.85 per hour compared to the Minimum Wage of £8.36 per hour and the National Living Wage of £8.91 per hour.
Almost 300,000 employees have received a pay rise from accredited Living Wage employers, who include many FTSE 100 companies, as well as the likes of IKEA, Google, Nationwide and Chelsea FC.
The Living Wage Foundation started in 2001 when a group of families began a campaign to be paid a real living wage on the basis that “a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay”.
Since then, hundreds of thousands of families have benefited, but the job isn’t yet done. More than 20% of UK workers still don’t earn a real living wage.
